My name is Mark Petersen and my goal is to compete in a 3-day endurance event called the Spartan Agoge. This is a physical and mental endurance event that is a once in a lifetime event being held on the Great Wall of China in October. Your support is very much appreciated! Since my first Spartan Race in 2013, I have achieved the Spartan Trifecta, which is comprised of three different race distances completed within a year. The “Sprint” at 5 miles with 20+ obstacles, the “Super” at 10 miles with 25+ obstacles, and the “Beast” at 15 miles with 30+ obstacles. I also completed the Spartan “Triple” Trifecta which consists of three Spartan Trifectas completed within a year. I am a certified Spartan Obstacle Specialist, and am currently in the process of completing my SGX Coach and Spartan X certifications. I am the co-founding Captain of the largest obstacle racing team in Utah, “Warrior State of Mind”. In addition, I host monthly obstacle course training workshops at my home in Sandy, Utah where I have transformed my backyard and house into a miniature Spartan course with over 30 obstacles. Five years ago, I was diagnosed with skin cancer. It was not that big of a deal at the time, although it did involve unpleasant treatments. However, that diagnosis led to another more serious diagnosis of cancer that was actually life threatening. I’ve lost a toe due to an ongoing foot injury I sustained in January of 2015, from an ice climbing accident. Despite my setbacks, I raced all 22 races in 2015 with a constantly broken toe and torn ligaments. Since then, I have undergone seven surgeries on my right foot, but I’m committed to going strong!
