RhPAP salutes health professionals who have come from far away to practise in rural Alberta. Lac La Biche registered nurse, Debbiann Wilson, is one of them. She grew up in Jamaica, practised as a nurse in many urban areas including Miami and Toronto, before heading west to rural Alberta. Her first stop was in McLennan, AB. After three years, she left to pursue an opportunity to work in maternity in Lac La Biche. To make a new place feel like home, Wilson knows it’s important to become part of the community. So she joined a soccer team and found that was a great was to meet new people and socialize. She also joined the Lions Club and is taking french lessons. She's started practising boxing to stay in shape, and that's where we caught up to, in her boxing gym at the Bold Center. We asked her how her experience has been as a registered nurse in rural Alberta.
